Postponed Till May
I think there is like one person who can attend the NPBC meeting on April 29th and one person does not a club make (unless it's a club about being alone, I suppose). Let's postpone till mid-May. More info to come!

Let's reschedule for the 29th. More details to come.

The Plan for April
Just checking in to share the plan for April's book, Water for Elephants. The film comes out on April 22.
The plan is to meet on April 22 for dinner, then see the film afterward. But I won't know till we get closer to the date what the times for the showings will be or, of course, what theaters it will be playing at.
So stay tuned!

February's Meeting: Next Book and New Stuff
Pizza, salad, gourmet popcorn, cookies, brownies and lots of laughter...oh, and we talked about books, too, at the NPBC February meeting.
Actually, nobody had finished reading it. But I'm glad we met anyway! We discussed the club and tossed around some ideas for 2011. Every year, we make adjustments to NPBC to try to make it better. Here's what we came up with:
-Always skip November-January. We never actually meet during these months anyway; we always cancel because everyone is just too busy. So, we are making that official.
-Mix up holding meetings at members' houses and at restaurants.
-See the movie. Some of the books we read end up in the theater. Why not go see it as a group?
-Continue with a book every other month.
-Choose books for the entire year up front.
These are all good things! In the next few days, I will post a big list of books. We will vote on them in order to determine our NPBC 2011 Book List. That way we will know what we're reading far in advance!
APRIL'S BOOK
We actually took it upon ourselves to choose April's book at the meeting. We felt we needed to get things moving.
WATER FOR ELEPHANTS by Sarah Gruen.
We will read the book and then see the movie in theaters April 22! I'm thinking maybe we even meet on April 22 and see the film on the same day. What do you think?
2011 BOOK LIST
This is your chance to throw out ideas for the books we will vote on! Please leave them in the comments! (I heard some of you were having difficulty commenting because it asks you for a "profile." You should be able to choose "Anonymous," but also if you have a Google account, you should be able to enter that information, as well. If you can't comment for some reason, just e-mail me.)

So You Haven't Read the Book for Feb...
Me neither. But I am going to. I just ordered a used copy from Amazon. It was only $4. I originally checked it out from the library, but never read it. The $4 will probably be cheaper than the late fees I am accumulating.
Kelley graciously has offered for us to have book club at her house. She lives in Renton near 405, so it should be a nice central-ish location.
For food, I would like to make some sort of main dish -- lasagna or maybe something inspired by the book (not sure as I haven't read it yet, but we shall see). Ideas?
If you can bring wine or an appetizer, please put it in the comments below. That way, I'll know what we're missing.
Okay. I've got two days to get my library copy back to the library before my new-old copy gets here. Maybe I'll read a little bit while my son takes a nap.
I also need to get an idea of how many people are coming, so please respond to the poll at right. Thanks!

Whoops!
I've been completely out of it. The holidays did me in this year. So I sort of let time get away from me. But, now, it's 2011! A fresh new year!
Right now, we should've all finished reading Alias Grace.
Yup.
So, how many of you are done?
Not me. But no matter. If you all were able to read it, let's meet this month. If not and you want to wait till February to meet, then so be it.
Okay. Let's vote! (Vote through Friday, Jan. 7 - 11:59 p.m.)
